Laguna Coast Wilderness Park is 6,300 acres of open space wilderness rich in resource diversity. As a significant portion of Orange County’s Coastal – Central Subregion of the Natural Communities Conservation Plan (NCCP/HCP), the park’s natural resources served as a primary focus for the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park General Development Plan (GDP).

Working closely together, RJM Principal Robert Mueting and renowned landscape architect Lawrence Halprin lead a series of community workshops that developed the goals for planning and management of the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. The workshop process developed by Lawrence Halprin continues to be the cornerstone in RJM’s community participation process. Resource management goals were also developed to further define the balance between public access and resource protection, enhancement and restoration.

The GDP documents the proposed development, restoration and preservation activities and facilities within Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, and provides guidelines for all future design and construction.  The GDP comprehensively yet sensitively integrates public recreation and interpretation opportunities, while protecting the park’s sensitive and valuable natural resources. A Resource Management Plan was developed concurrently with the GDP according to NCCP/HCP requirements and provides guidelines for further research and for development of management actions.
