The City of Mission Viejo held a “soft” opening of the newly renovated Tennis Pavilion at the Marguerite Recreation Center on Monday, August 27th; a grand opening celebration will follow in the fall.
The Tennis Pavilion at the Marguerite Tennis Center is flanked by the world-famous Nadadores Aquatics Center and the Mission Viejo Family YMCA. The City’s capital improvement project greatly improved the nearly 40-year-old facility for the people of all ages it serves. Improvements include two new tennis courts and essential building and lighting upgrades. An existing tennis court was moved to make way for an outdoor event area catering to the Tennis Pavilion and Aquatic Center as well as a much-needed “front door” to both facilities. This new “entry plaza” also provides a more convenient and safer drop-off area for parents so they can now see their kids walk into the gates of the Marguerite Recreation Center. Some more parking spaces were added, and a new turnaround at the plaza entrance gives folks the ability to enter and exit the parking lot from Casta Del Sol, adding even more safety features to the community facility.
The renovation project also incorporated environmentally-friendly features. The tennis court lighting was upgraded to a “green” system by Musco Lighting, providing a much more efficient source of light. Doing so had an aesthetic benefit, too, by reducing the dozens of light poles to only six. To conserve even more energy, LED light fixtures replaced old security lighting. There’s a revamped drainage system to benefit Oso Creek, and the entire site now complies with the new ADA requirements.
