Sports Facilities

The design of this site focused upon environmentally sensitive construction techniques and the ability to blend with the area’s natural characteristics. Earthwork operations were designed to save dirt hauling costs and reduce air pollution. Water consumption is reduced to less than one-quarter of the annual use for a comparably sized facility due to the use of synthetic turf instead of conventionally irrigated grass fields.

This project is particularly well designed to host competitive events due to the emphasis given to the spectator areas. The main pedestrian concourse is a gently sloping, color-tinted promenade that reaches 5 feet of elevation above the batter’s boxes. Spectators are kept cool under custom-designed UV blocking shade awnings that have a misting system for the 100+ degree summer softball tournaments.
