RJM Design Group is proud to support the Orange County Cemetery District in evaluating the development of the Gypsum Canyon Public Cemetery — a landmark project poised to become a significant addition to Anaheim Hills. Situated on a sprawling 283-acre site just off the 91 Freeway at Gypsum Canyon Road, this unique property offers a serene setting adjacent to thousands of acres of pristine natural open space.

A powerful symbol of honor and remembrance, the site is home to the iconic Flag One — a striking 100-foot flagpole proudly displaying a 30-by-60-foot American flag, visible from the 91 Freeway. This impressive landmark stands as a tribute to the future home of an adjoining Southern California Veterans' Cemetery, serving the nation’s heroes adjacent to the public cemetery development.

Our efforts have focused on extensive research and collaboration to ensure the public cemetery project's feasibility, while keeping the Veteran's Cemetery in mind. These efforts include geotechnical analysis, regulatory processing, and comprehensive site development planning. In July 2024, the Anaheim City Council approved entitlements for the property with unanimous support from all Orange County cities, reinforcing its future role as a public cemetery and adjoining Southern California Veterans' Cemetery.

RJM’s involvement has centered on delivering thoughtful planning solutions that align with the site’s natural beauty while ensuring seamless coordination with key agencies like the City of Anaheim, County of Orange, Orange County Parks, Caltrans, and OCFA. This vital project holds the potential to provide a meaningful place of remembrance while honoring the region's veterans and serving the broader community for generations to come.
